In a shocking incident, a dozen police officials took to their heels after their team leader, a sub-inspector, was surrounded and shot by criminals during a raid on a house in Greater Noida’s Dadri on Monday around 4.30 am. As the bullet-ridden cop was struggling for life, the miscreants fled the spot.

The sub-inspector, Akhtar Khan (40), was taken to hospital by a PCR van that reached the spot after around one and a half hour. He was declared brought dead at hospital.

The police team led by Khan had gone to raid the house in Nai Abadi village of Dadri where dreaded gangster of Western Uttar Pradesh Furkaan and his five henchmen were reported to be staying on Sunday night. As the SI tried to capture Furkaan alive, his accomplices surrounded Akhtar Khan and opened indiscriminate firing. Two bullets hit Khan in his neck, police said.

The kin of the slain SI alleged that Khan was bumped off in a conspiracy. They refused to perform the last rites until the murderers were nabbed. "It is a conspiracy as other policemen fled from the spot. We want a probe. We will not conduct the last rites till they are arrested," said Wahid Khan, Akhtar's elder brother.

later Furkaan's accomplice Aurangzeb was arrested from a hospital where he was admitted for a gunshot injury, said police. Deputy Inspector General (Meerut Range) lakshmi Singh said, "The police arrested one of the criminals, identified as Aurangzeb, with bullet injures. The UP Police has declared a reward of Rs 50,000 on each of the absconding gangsters. We have suspended Dadari SHO Home Singh Yadav. Six police teams have been formed to conduct raids in Delhi and NCR."

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced Rs 20 lakh compensation to the family of the brave police officer.

SI Khan was a native of Aligarh district and had joined the UP Police as a constable in 1998. He is survived by wife, two sons, and a daughter.
