A six-year-old girl, suspected to have been sexually assaulted, died on Thursday night, six hours after she was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with injuries to private parts. The family of the girl on Friday said she was raped either on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

The horrible incident in Outer Delhi’s Ranhola area came to light after it was reported to the Delhi Police on Thursday night that the girl succumbed to “severe infection” of anal & vaginal region at the hospital, police said.

The doctors, who treated the girl, said the child was in decompensated septic shock with respiratory failure and multi-organ dysfunction. They suspected sexual assault.

Meanwhile, DCW chief Swati Maliwal met the doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Friday. Soon after the meeting, she tweeted, “Met doctors at Ganga Ram Hospital, the 6-year-old’s medical reports reveal recto vaginal fistula which means tear in anal & vaginal region. Happens due to sexual assault. She appears to have died due to an infection from same (sic).”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) MN Tiwari said the minor girl died due to severe infection and the father of the minor girl suspects that she was raped by someone to known to her.

The child was a Class I student of RP World School in Uttam Nagar.

After cremating the child, the girl’s father told The Pioneer that she started complaining of pain in her left leg on Sunday evening after she returned from her tuition class.

“On Monday morning, when we woke her up for school, she was exceptionally quiet. Usually, she is a very cheerful girl. She went to school for a class test, scheduled to start at 8.15 am. Two hours later, I got a call from the school that she is having unbearable pain in her leg. After which, I sent my younger brother to bring her home,” said the girl’s father.

Narrating how he took his daughter all around Delhi since Monday afternoon till he got the child admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital on Thursday afternoon, the teary-eyed father said, “My daughter kept crying due to pain till her last breath.”

He said, “I took her to a quack who gave her oil massage to ease her plain on left leg. Thinking that she might have fractured bone, I also took her to Shishu Sadan to get X-Ray done. However, the Shishu Sadan said they don’t have enough facilities. Then I took her to Tagore Garden clinic where doctor told me that my daughter is in a serious condition and must be taken to a big hospital.”

“On Thursday at 3.30 pm, my child was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital and six hours later, she died,” said her distraught father.

“Throughout all that time from Monday till Thursday, my daughter kept vomiting and also had loose motions. I kept thinking that it might be due to the side effects of the medicines,” he added.

The girl’s grandfather alleged that the Ganga Ram Hospital authorities took Rs 73,000 just for admitting the minor girl for six hours.
