Known for her hands-on approach in responding promptly to SOS calls from Indians, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday exhibited a sense of great humour by claiming that Indian Embassy can provide succour to people stranded on Mars. The Minister’s dig came in response to a tweet by a man who jokingly said he is stuck on Mars and needs food.
“@SushmaSwaraj, I am stuck on mars, food sent via ...Mangalyaan (987 days ago), is running out, when is ...Mangalyaan-II being sentIJ @ISRO,” tweeted one Karan Saini. In response to this, Swaraj tweeted, “Even if
you are stuck on Mars, Indian Embassy there will help you.”
The Minister got a lot of praise for her reply while Saini was ridiculed by the netizens.
“When someone truly does a great job, the least you can do is ‘respect’ the person! Mocking them will get you attention but not respect,” tweeted a user.
Facing barrage of attack on social media, Saini tweeted, “my and our respect for @isro and foreign affairs team is sky-high, my tweet was purely humorous in nature #NationFirstNoCompromise.”
Meanwhile, responding to another tweet of a man whose relative is in Qatar, Sushma said the Indian Government is monitoring situation on Qatar. Nearly six lakh Indians live and work in Qatar which is facing diplomatic turbulence leading to panic among Non Resident Indians. “@SushmaSwaraj My brother wid other Indians stuck in Qatar wid storage of basic enmities, they need our govn help. Plz hlp to bring dem back (sic),” a Twitter user had posted. The minister replied immediately saying: “This was just not correct. We are constantly monitoring the situation in Qatar.”
