Subramanian Swamy’s Janata Party merged with BJP on Sunday ahead of the 2014 general elections. The announcement was made by Swamy and BJP chief Rajnath Singh after they met at the latter’s residence in Delhi. Former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and senior party leader Arun Jaitley were also present at the meet.

“Swamy has been a part of Bharatiya Jan Sangh. He has decided to merge Janta Party with BJP. We welcome him. I am sure this will benefit the party,” Rajnath Singh said. “I am extremely happy. It is time for nationalistic forces to unite for the country’s welfare. It is time for a nationalist focus,” Subramanian Swamy said.
