In yet another corporal punishment, a Class IX student has lost his right eye after he was beaten by a teacher in Shambhu Dayal Inter-College in the city on August 21. The police registered a case on Friday after the parents pursued the case for over a week.

Narrating the incident, Rajni, the mother of victim Krishna, said on August 21, her son was completing his Mathe-matics homework in the class when Hindi teacher Virendra Nagar entered the class and asked him what he was doing.

“He innocently replied he was completing his maths homework as the Hindi teacher was not in the class. This infuriated Nagar who started beating the boy black and blue. The teacher dragged the boy to the blackboard banged his head against it. Krishna started bleeding on his right eyebrow,” Rajni said.

The student was bleeding from a cut on his right eyebrow. Instead of taking the injured student to hospital, the school administration gave him first aid and sent him home. The ordeal of the 15-year-old student did not end here as his parents were made to run from pillar to post to register a criminal case against the guilty teacher.

The mother alleged that the school management treated the incident very casually. They just put some cotton on the wound and sent him home, she said.

The boy complained of pain in the head and eye to his mother. She took him to the Government MMG Hospital, where doctors refused to treat him saying it was a police case.

Next day, she took him to a private eye surgeon in Bajaria area where the doctor told her that his optic nerves were ruptured and her son has lost vision in the right eye.

The doctor also told her that Krishna’s vision cannot be restored. She took her son to another eye surgeon in Vaishali area and then to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. She was told by the doctors that irreparable damage has been done and his eye cannot be restored.

The police registered a case under Sections 323/326/506 of the IPC at Vijay Nagar police station on Friday. The Government MMG Hospital also agreed to treat the boy.

“Now, the MMG Hospital has referred the case to AIIMS in Delhi,” said Krishna’s mother. “The school management has earlier greed to bear all the treatment expenses. But, after registration of FIR, they have withdrawn their support and are instead threatening the family and my elder son who is studying in class XI in the same school,” she alleged

“We have registered the case under Sections 326, 323 and 506 of IPC against Hindi teacher Virendra Nagar and the college management. The offender is at large. Raids are being conducted to nab him,” said SP City Shiv Hari Meena.
