Overcoming his image as a novice in the world of politics and revealing his matured political persona on Tuesday, Arvind Kejriwal asked his party workers to accept the win with humility, not arrogance. “I request all volunteers and party members not to be arrogant. The BJP lost because of its arrogance. We have to stay humble and serve the people of Delhi with our heads bowed down,” said Delhi’s Chief Minister-designate.
Addressing a gathering of over a thousand supporters outside the party office in Patel Nagar, Kejriwal gave the entire credit of the victory to the people of Delhi and AAP’s volunteers. He said: “The people of Delhi have done wonders. The AAP doesn’t have money or resources but we walk the path of righteousness. I also salute the volunteers who worked day and night, left their jobs and shut shops to work 24x7. It’s their victory, truly.”
Accepting the landslide victory has thrust on him a grave responsibility, Kejriwal said, “Winning with this majority feels good but it brings with it a big responsibility. It’s very scary. I’m a small man but I trust the common man. I know that with the support of the people I can make Delhi a world-class city.” For the first time Kejriwal also spoke of his wife. “My wife is with me today. She never comes out because she works in the Government and she is always scared that the Government might take action against her. But today I dragged her out with me. Without her I would’ve been nothing. She is my support base. The blessings of our elders and the support of my family have been a binding factor in my life,” said an emotional Kejriwal after the spectacular win.
