In a shocking case of road rage, two brothers — Sahab Singh and Kaptan Singh who worked as tempo drivers — were shot by a group of armed men in Outer Delhi’s Sultanpur Dabas area on Friday morning.
The incident took place outside the residence of the victims whose tempo was parked in the narrow road outside their house making it difficult for the car of the accused to pass through.
According to the police the incident took place
around 10 am when Sahab Singh (45) parked his tempo outside his house and went in for a few minutes.
A white Skoda Fabia, with four men inside it, was unable to pass and the driver began honking repeatedly.
When Sahab Singh came out to check, the men shouted at him and asked him to move the tempo. While reversing Sahab Singh misjudged the distance and his tempo grazed the car resulting in a scratch.
Infuriated, the four men began beating Sahab Singh. Hearing the commotion his younger brother Kaptan Singh (38) rushed to his aid but he was also thrashed. Before the brothers could recover, the four men began firing at them.
The men also fired at Kaptan Singh’s son Sagar who tried to intervene, but he escaped unhurt as he closed the door of the house in time.
Residents of the area claimed that one the assailants was Rahul alias Kale a local goon and history-sheeter.
“It was all over in five minutes. By the time I came out my sons were dead. Around nine rounds were fired. All of them had pistols. First they hit my sons and later Kale instructed them to fire. My sons had apologised but still they shot them,” said lal Chand, father of the victims. “My elder son died due to an illness and now these two have been murdered.
I have only one handicapped son left now,” he cried.
A case of murder has been registered at Bawana Police Station. However, no arrest has been made so far. Another accused has been identified as Pankaj, the brother of notorious criminal Neeraj Bawania who is at large after jumping parole. A senior police official said that the car used in the crime is registered in the name of Pankaj.
Family members of the deceased alleged that despite making a call to the police no one reached the spot on time. The father of the victims claimed that for over two hours neither the police nor the ambulance reached the spot and in the end they had to take the bodies to the hospital in the tempo.
They were taken to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead.
“Going by the accounts of eyewitnesses we have identified one of the accused as Kale. Further investigations are underway,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sanjay Kumar. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to Ambedkar Hospital. Meanwhile locals and family members staged a protest at the hospital. They also pelted stones and thrashed Inspector Satish Kumar, the Station House Officer of Bawana and other police officials.
“What will the police officials do when they themselves are in cahoots with the criminalsIJ They have let loose a reign of terror in the area and nobody dares to question them. All of them have pistols but nobody checks,” said Rohit, a cousin of the victims. later in the evening when a police official reached the residence of the victims he too was beaten up but an angry mob.
