Amid speculation about the actor-cum-philanthropist Sonu Sood’s entry into politics, his younger sister Malvika Sood Sachar is set to enter the political battlefield. Sood, not giving a clear reply over the possibilities of his political venture, made it clear that his sister will contest 2022 Punjab polls from Moga, maintaining that the party she would represent would be announced “at right time”.
Addressing the media at his home in Moga, Sood said his sister has done a lot of amazing works in the past, adding that her commitment to social work was “unparalleled”. “We today officially want to say that Malvika will certainly come to serve Punjab. We have not yet taken a call about the party,” said Sood, adding that it would be announced at the right time.
Sood also announced that for the time being, he was not joining politics, but will support his sister to serve society in a better way.
Notably, Sood’s recent surprise meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, which lasted for over two hours, had started the rumour mill grinding over the possibility of his holding the Congress’ “hand”.
Also, sometime ago, Sood had met Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, setting off speculation about him joining politics. It was believed that the Bollywood actor would join AAP, which was looking for a strong Punjabi face for the State Assembly polls, scheduled to be held early next year.
When asked about his recent meetings with the Punjab Chief Minister and his Delhi counterpart, Sood showered praise on both of them, and addressed them as “good people”. He said that the leaders whom he met are wonderful people, but he especially praised Channi, calling him a very humble person.
At the same time, he added that he would soon be meeting Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, as he has vast experience in politics. It is believed that by holding meetings with leaders of all political parties, Sood is exploring the best option for his sister.
Sood recently came to the limelight when he released a video stating that the manifesto, where political parties make a lot of promises, should be made a sacred document, and parties must fulfil what they promise in a timely manner.
When asked about issues that are plaguing Punjab, the actor said that the biggest problem of the State is unemployment and linked it to drugs. “When people do not get jobs, they take drugs. We are already working on it,” he said.
He also stressed that the IT industry should be promoted in the State in a big way for generating employment opportunities.
The actor also called for improving the healthcare system in Punjab. “There are several dispensaries in villages of Punjab where nobody is there (for patients). Sometimes in Government hospitals, doctors and medicines are not available. These things should be set right,” he said.
On the ongoing farmers’ protest, the actor said that it was necessary that the farmers get their rights, asserting that their issues should be resolved so that they can return to their fields.
Batting for the farmers, he said that Indians are eating because of them, so it is important that they should be happy.
When asked about income tax raids on his premises in September, he said that he has faced many difficulties in the past but he will always fight for the people.
Sood grabbed the entire nation’s eyeballs for helping migrants reach their home States during the nationwide lockdown announced last year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The actor turned like a demi-god for supporting the people, especially the poor, during Covid-19 hardship for arranging transportation, lodging, meals, and many more facilities. Like him, Malvika too had been serving people in Moga area of Punjab.
Sood stated that Malvika had been doing wonderful work for society and now she wants to amplify her philanthropic activities in a further strong way.
Malvika said that she had been working towards addressing issues related to healthcare and education.
Malvika, a computer engineer as per Instagram bio, identified herself as a “social worker” in the bio and there were numerous glimpses of this on Instagram. Much like the philanthropic initiatives of her brother, she too donated an ambulance in Moga.
Her other social initiatives include providing ration kits, books to students, masks and sanitisers, and oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic. She also distributed bicycles to the needy and started the ‘Mera sheher, meri zimmewari’ (My city, my responsibility) campaign.
Not just does she mention her brother’s charity, Sonu Sood Foundation, she also seemed to be handling its responsibilities in Moga, while also mentioning the numerous other initiatives he launched.
As per Instagram, she calls herself the “CEO of Hollywood English Academy”, which provides help in English-speaking, personality development, immigration, training for overseas examinations and more.
