Thirty six hours after she was kidnapped, 23-year-old woman, working with e-commerce major Snapdeal, returned home on Friday morning. She told the police, “Before leaving (me) at the railway station, they (kidnappers) gave me `100 for return fare.”
However, Dipti Sarna’s father Narendra Sarna claimed that she called him from a co-passenger’s phone and told him that she “managed to flee from the clutches of her captors” and was safe. Her father immediately informed the City SP and rushed to New Delhi railway station and received his daughter. Dipti was accompanied by a police team to her Kavi Nagar residence.
However, top sources in police said police are screening her former boyfriend Vikram and the current one whom she called during the time of kidnapping to ascertain whether any of her friends was involved in the kidnapping. They are looking into all possible
angles, including fake kidnapping story.
Ghaziabad Police chief DS Yadav said Dipti was in trauma and it could not be confirmed at this stage that Dipti had indeed been kidnapped because “some facts in her version are open to verification”. But police have started an investigation based on her statement.
The reliable sources in the hospital, on the condition of anonymity, said she refused to undergo specific tests to determine whether she was sexually assaulted or not. On her refusal, the doctors just carried out external examination, the sources added.
She told police that she was blindfolded by kidnappers and she did not know where exactly she was taken.
During 36 hours with them, they transported her in motorcycle, car and on foot. She was kept in a sugarcane field for some time. The kidnappers also threatened her that they had high connections in political circle.
Finally in the wee hours of Friday, she was left at a railway platform from where she took a train to Delhi. “Before leaving (me) at the railway station, they gave me `100 for return fare,” she said. At Narela station, she took help from a co-passenger to call her father and told him she was safe and about to reach New Delhi Railway Station.
Deepti Sarna was abducted from Vaishali Metro station by four abductors in an auto. They changed to another vehicle when their auto developed some defects and could not proceed further beyond Raj Nagar Extension. From there, they reached Morti village on foot and allowed the other woman to go. “Her mobile’s last location was traced at Morti village from where they changed her to other vehicle-an i10 car and in onward journey the criminals used a motorcycle also. They forced her to walk about 10 kilometre blindfolded. From Morti onward they switched off her mobile phone,” said SP City Salman Taj Patil.
Deepti’s mobile phone, laptop, purse and some other personal articles were snatched by the abductors and are yet to be recovered.
“Prima facie it seems a case of kidnapping for ransom but we are still not sure of the conclusion since we have taken version of the victim and the questioning of suspects is still lying pending... But it is sure that she was abducted in an auto by four abductors including a woman. It is yet to be ascertained whether the woman accomplice was their gang mate or a stray passenger, added the SP, City.
