Snag hits trains on Yellow Line again, services off for 2 hours

The commuters travelling on the Yellow Line of Delhi Metro were once again stranded inside the station for nearly two hours on Saturday due to a power failure between Udyog Bhawan and Model Town. The services on this section were completely suspended at around 5 pm putting the passengers in a tizzy.

The Yellow Line connects Samaypur Badli in Delhi to Huda City Centre in Gurugram.

Following the snag, the services were stopped immediately between Udyog Bhawan and Model Town metro stations. However, services on part of the section were restored after some time and trains were operated in two separate loops between Huda City Centre and Central Secretariat and between Kashmere Gate and Samaypur Badli.

“The services were delayed between Udyog Bhawan and Model Town due to some leakage from the water pipeline inside the tunnel between New Delhi and Chawri Bazar Metro Station, the power supply tripped on the Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate Section. Our engineers are working on the issue. We shall update as soon as the issue is fixed,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official.

“We regret the inconvenience. Services are running normal on all other lines,” added the DMRC official.

DMRC also kept the passengers informed with frequent tweets about the situation and rectification work underway.

The services on the section later resumed after almost two hours at around 7 pm. “The issue has been rectified. Normal service has resumed. Please allow extra time in your commute in this section till the bunching of trains normalises. We thank you for your patience,” announced DMRC in a tweet.

However, the complete halt in the busy section at the peak rush hour put the passengers in havoc. The angry passengers started posting tweet with picture of crowd, passengers struck inside the station in the DMRC twitter handle.

Another passenger Gauransh tweeted, “Not again, please do something about theses faults instead of giving free ride to women.”

“We waited at the Chandini Chowk for more than 45 minutes. Police officials were also there but nobody was ready to tell us anything. It was a very bad experience for us. There were old, women and children. We all waited at that platform amidst sweltering heat. I wonder if our CM’s free Metro ride for women is feasible or not,” said Sugandha.

“Stuck since 50 mins. It’s not delay. It’s stopped,” tweeted Kerul Shah.

In a similar situation, a technical snag occurred in the last week of May and in the same Yellow Line between Qutub Minar and Chattarpur station where more than 5000 passengers were locked inside the Metro train for more than four hours due to a break of Over Head Electricity wire (OHE).
