Singh tweets tale of 'duty' and 'disgust'

Slammed on social media for attending Pakistan National Day celebrations in the presence of Jammu & Kashmir separatists, Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh took to Twitter late on Monday to define “duty” and “disgust”; and conveyed his displeasure over performing the unpleasant assignment.

In a series of tweets, Singh tried to convey that he was forced to carry out a duty that was disgusting. Though he spent just around 10 minutes at the Pakistan Embassy, his followers on the social media  strongly criticised him and reminded him that being an ex-chief of the Indian Army he should not have given legitimacy to the Pakistan High Commissioner’s invite to the separatists by attending the function. Singh’s followers on Twitter tore into him using the hashtag #partywithenemy.

Singh responded with a series of five following tweets with the hashtags #Duty and #Disgust:

“#DUTY: A task or action that a person is bound to perform for moral or legal reasons,” he posted, adding, “#DUTY:  The force that binds one morally or legally to one’s obligations.”

“#DUTY : A job or service allocated,” said his third tweet, without referring to the Pakistan Day reception or the duty he was talking about.

Another hashtag, #DISGUST said, “#DISGUST: To sicken or fill with loathing.”

“#DISGUST To offend the moral sense, principles, or taste of,” was the final of five tweets.
