Delhi lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday appealed to the youth to desist from any irresponsible behaviour on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on Friday night.

He also instructed the police to deal with miscreants sternly. He also appealed to the parents to rein in their wards.

“It is an occasion for worship and respect to the departed souls. In the past years, there has been a growing menace of bikers misusing the occasion to create mayhem, law and order problem on the streets of Delhi. Bikers are warned that any misbehaviour will be dealt with a heavy hand and the sole responsibility and repercussions will rest with them,” Jung said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police has made adequate traffic arrangements to ensure safety of motorists on roads between 8 pm on June 13 to 6 am on June 14. In order to prevent rash and negligent driving or performance of stunts on two-wheelers, the additional traffic staff will be deployed at 182 strategic locations in South, North, North-East, Central and New Delhi areas.

Besides, the Delhi Police has also roped in 20 Imams of different mosques in the city to impress upon those participating in nightlong worship, vigil and prayers to be disciplined and visit the graves of their loved ones in a dignified manner. Earlier this week, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi held a meeting with all field officers and warned them of serious consequences in the event of any disturbance in their areas during Shab-e-Barat.

“Major roads will be barricaded and special checking teams armed with alcometers will be deployed at major intersections to detect prosecute traffic violations and check the incidents of drunken driving, over speeding, reckless driving, zig-zag driving, dangerous driving, red light jumping, triple riding, minor driving, driving/riding without helmet, performing stunts on two-wheelers and other traffic offences,” said a senior traffic police official.
