The Station House Officer (SHO) of Vijay Vihar Police Station, Dinesh Kumar, in outer Delhi was arrested in the wee hours of  Saturday on the charge of abetment to suicide, after a woman named him in her suicide note, accusing him of “torture” and “harassment,” police said.

“We received information around 3 pm on Friday that a 25-year-old woman was found in an unconscious state outside Tis Hazari Court complex. The woman had consumed poison. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed” said DCP (North) Madhur Verma.

“A suicide note and a five-page complaint against Inspector Dinesh Kumar, levelling serious allegations of torture and harassment, was found in her possession. Kumar was found at fault during the investigation,” said Verma.

Following his arrest, the police officer has been suspended for infinite period.

The Delhi Police sought four days’ police custody of Kumar but it was denied by the court which insisted on his medical check up first.  Sources said Kumar was questioning a dreaded criminal Ram Niwas, who used Renu to trap police officers.

Renu had reportedly tried to commit suicide in 2005 and 2006 in order to trap two men at Niwas’ behest, sources said.  Cases in this regard were registered at Sultanpuri Police Station, Rohini Police Station and Vijay Vihar Police Station against Niwas and Renu.

“SHO Kumar was questioning Ram Niwas in a case against him, following which the latter used the same modus operandi to entrap him,” said sources.

Meanwhile, Ram Niwas’s wife Rita told the media that Renu was Ram’s paramour and the duo had trapped several innocent people in fake cases earlier.
