The Congress on Sunday rejected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charge that the Opposition was “inciting” people, and alleged that an environment of fear and uncertainty has been created by Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament that the NRC will be implemented after Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Leading the party’s attack, Rahul Gandhi said that both Modi and Shah destroyed future of youth, and they can’t face their anger over jobs, economy that’s why they are dividing India.
His attack came as Modi, at a rally in the national Capital, hit out at rival parties, accusing them of trying to spread falsehood over the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) by inciting minorities and poor.
“Dear Youth of India, Modi & Shah have destroyed your future. They can’t face your anger over the lack of jobs and damage they’ve done to the economy. That’s why they are dividing our beloved India and hiding behind hate. We can only defeat them by responding with love towards every Indian,” Rahul said on twitter.
In another tweet, he said, “Dear students of India, no Indian student should allow Modi-Shah to divide India the way they are doing. Students of India, you are the future of India and India is your future. Let’s stand together and fight their hate.”
Rahul has been training his guns on Modi-Shah combine and even earlier he said the PM and the Home Minister lived in their fantasy world, which he alleged was the reason why the country is facing difficult times.
“Amit Shah and Narendra Modi live in their own imaginary world. They have no contact with the outside world. They live in their own world and they fantasise about things...that is why the country is in such trouble,” Rahul had said on the day when the CAA was approved in Parliament.
“If Narendra Modi listens to the people of this country, there won’t be any problem,” Rahul said.
Reacting to Modi’s speech in the national Capital on Sunday, former Union Minister Anand Sharma said at a time when protests continue across the country against the CAA and the NRC, the PM should provide a healing touch if he is “sensitive and serious”.
“He (PM) should call a meeting of the Chief Ministers of all States at the National Integration Council (NIC) to discuss this matter,” said Sharma in reactions to Modi’s speech.
Countering the Prime Minister’s statement that there are no detention centres in the country, Sharma said, “They are present in India. People are being kept there. Those people, who fought for us in Kargil War, have also been sent to those detention centres and the media showed it.”
“Even international media has made films of those detention centres and showed how in five rooms, 600 persons are being kept in Assam. Kids have been separated from their mothers. Families have been torn apart,” he said at a Press conference.
On the PM’s charge that the Opposition parties, including the Congress, are spreading lies and inciting people on the NRC and the CAA, he said, “The Prime Minister should speak responsibly. The Indian National Congress as the main Opposition party, and the other Opposition parties, they have the right to speak on people’s issues and country’s issues. This is also our responsibility.”
Another Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa in a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday urged to have the ambit of new citizenship law expanded to include in it Ahmadiyya community too, facing persecution in Pakistan.
Bajwa argued that the Government needs to undertake the humanitarian step for Amhadiyyas, who have had to flee Pakistan following persistent persecution.
