Sensex, Rs ride high on exit polls' claim of pro-BJP wave

Published on:

The exit polls’ prediction of the BJP making a clean sweep in State Assembly elections has helped the benchmark Sensex snap out of its three session fall. Sensex on Thursday gained 249.10 points to 20,957.81, while broader index Nifty rose by 80.15 points to 6,241.10. The pro-BJP mood as shown by the exit polls did have an impact on rupee as it appreciated by 30 paise and ended at Rs 61.75 against dollar.

Giving credit to emerging mood in favour of the BJP for the rising market, analysts said that everybody was looking forward to a BJP-led Government at the Centre. Heavy inflow of funds from foreign institutional investors (FII) on high expectations of BJP’s performance helped the domestic currency as well as the stock markets to register huge gains.
