After battling for life for 13 days, the 12-year-old boy, Roshan lama, who had been brought with critical injuries to the AIIMS Trauma Centre by his school administration, died on Monday afternoon.

The victim suffered brain damage when a javelin thrown by a senior in school during practice hit him as he tried to save his friends. lama, who was in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit died around 2 pm and his body, was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.

“He was on ventilator support for the last 12 days at the neurosurgery ICU of the hospital, after doctors performed a surgery on his fractured skull, and repaired his dural matter. In lama’s case, surgeons had to use a graft to repair the damage as it was too large to be sutured,” said a senior doctor treating him at the trauma centre, adding that the boy had been critical since day one and his condition never improved.

According to a senior doctor at the hospital, the victim lama was brought to the hospital with critical injuries; a fractured skull and was bleeding profusely. His brain had suffered serious damage.

“The javelin had pierced his ear, and ruptured the dural matter, fracturing his skull. He would have undergone severe brain damage, but he never regained consciousness for us to assess his brain damage. He died from multi-organ failure,” he added.

The incident occurred when the victim lama along with his two friends, were walking to their classroom during recess and suddenly one of his friends, Deepak saw the javelin coming towards them. “lama pushed Deepak out of the way but could not escape himself and got hit. The javelin missed his friend but hit Roshan’s ear and fractured his skull,” the officer added. Senior students were preparing during a practice session for the annual sports day at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee government boys school in C R Park. “Based on the victim’s father complaint, a case of 304-A was registered and two physical training teachers were arrested, while one juvenile was also apprehended,” a senior police officer said, adding that the two PT teachers were identified as Sushil Kumar Sharma and Jitesh Chawla. The State Education department has also ordered a probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family claimed that they are not satisfied with the probe carried out by the police and demanded the arrest of the Principal and the Vice Principal of the school. “I want the school principal, Niranjan lal Sharma, to see what it is like behind bars. As two teachers have already been arrested and the accused juvenile was also apprehended, why has the principal been sparedIJ Why should he escape responsibility for an incident in a school he heads,” said Suraj lama.
