RWAs to fix dog feed spots: Delhi Government

Published on:

The Delhi Government has issued guidelines on street dogs population management, rabies eradication and reduction of human dog conflicts.  It mandates registration of pet household dogs with the local body.

It further states, "In each municipal ward, keeping in view the number of dogs and their spatial distribution, appropriate feeding points shall be identified by the RWA and residents. While choosing such points, it must be borne in mind that dogs are territorial by nature, forcing them to move out of their territories causes conflict."

"Animal caregivers must also volunteer their services in the ABC program being run by the local authority for sterilisation and vaccination of dogs," according to the guidelines.

The guidelines also mandate signboards at feeding points and restricts feeding at other places "Feeding at any other location shall not be permitted Necessary action may be taken against offenders," the guidelines said.

The guidelines futher state that any resident who adopts Indian dogs will be given exemption from paying any registration fees for the dog. Sterilisation and first vaccination of the dog will also be free of cost at an ABC Center of that area.
