In a scene straight out of a Bollywood thriller, two traffic violators in their desperate attempt to escape the traffic police scaled the walls of Rajokri Air Force Station, but they had their luck ran out as they were arrested for additional charge of trespassing on a prohibited defence area.

On Wednesday, around 3 pm, Traffic Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bijender Singh Chahar, who was manning the Rajokri traffic point alone, stopped a truck and asked the driver to show the documents of the vehicle. Driver Jabid Khan could not produce any document and hence Bijender, in a bid to impound the vehicle, got into the truck and asked Jabid to take the vehicle to Dwarka Sector 9 traffic pit. Jabid’s helper Arif Mohammed was sitting in the back of the truck.

When the ASI tried to take away the keys of the truck, Jabid abused and threatened him by saying he would drive the truck off the flyover and kill them all and took the truck towards Rajokri.  Unable to stop the truck, Bijender took out his mobile phone to call police, but the audacious driver immediately snatched the cell phone and threw it away.

“The driver had to take a U-turn from under the Rajokri flyover and then go towards Dwarka, but to my horror, the driver got on to the flyover. I got scared as I felt that they were capable of doing anything. So I stayed put for a while until we came down the flyover. I again pounced on the driver and started turning the steering and shouting at him to stop the truck but he kept on speeding. He even punched me a few times,” Bijender said.

“Running out of options, I pulled the steering wheel to the left with all my might and the truck began heading towards a wall. Right before hitting the wall Jabid pressed the brakes,” said Bijender.

The driver and his helper quickly got down from the vehicle, scaled the walls of the Rajokri Air Force Station and jumped inside. “The two men were apprehended by the officials at the Air Force station as it is a prohibited area and no one is allowed to enter without the requisite permission. Meanwhile, more policemen reached the spot and Bijender took custody of the men,” said a senior police officer.

The officer added that the accused, who are residents of neighbouring Mewat district in Haryana were arrested under Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act (OSA) for entering a prohibited area.

Apart from that, they were arrested under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of  duty), 356 (assault or use of criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation, if threat be to cause death or grievous hurt, etc) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
