Roadways asked to divert routes

Even as the Army staged a flag march in riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar district on Sunday, the administration is taking steps to prevent communal clashes from spreading to other areas of the State and neighbouring Uttarakhand.

While a general alert has been sounded across the State, principal secretary (Home) Omparakash held an emergency meeting with police and transport department officials and asked them to divert the route of Uttarakhand Roadways buses to Delhi via Paonta Sahib instead of Muzaffarnagar.

He also asked them to divert the routes of Uttarakhand-bound buses originating from Delhi in view of the current situation prevailing in Muzaffarnagar.

In the wake of the communal tensions in the UP, a high alert has been sounded in neighbouring Uttarakhand as well. Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar has asked the administration and the police force to be vigilant especially in Dehradun, Haridwar and US Nagar districts, which border Uttar Pradesh.
