RK Pachauri was removed as the chief of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on Thursday on charges of sexual harassment by a woman employee. He will be replaced by Ajay Mathur, presently the Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, India. The Governing Council of TERI took the decision in a meeting held in Bangalore to appoint Ajay Mathur as the Director General of TERI. “Mathur will take up his new responsibilities as soon as he is in a position to do so, subsequent to being relieved from his current responsibilities by the Government of India after a brief period of transition,” said an official statement from TERI.
His sacking comes barely a week after the Saket District Court allowed him access to TERI offices across the country. However, he was not allowed to enter the lodhi Road office in New Delhi and the Gurgaon office. The court had on March 21 granted Pachauri anticipatory bail while imposing the conditions that he will join the probe as and when called and not enter the TERI office premises.
