Relay team strikes Gold

With just one day left for the Asian Games at Incheon to wind up, the Indian Women’s Team of 400X4 relay race gave India its first Gold medal in athletics. You would say it’s rare, but the topping on the cake is that it is the fourth Gold medal for the team in Asian Games on a trot, a huge achievement that showed its happiness by hoisting the Tricolour high on Thursday.

The proud recipients of this much-coveted Gold medal were the brilliant quartet of Priyanka Panwar, Tintu luka (who also won a Silver medal in the 800 meters race), Mandeep Kaur and MR Poovamma (who won a bronze in another race) who finished the race in record time.

They made the race look easy winning it in 3:28.68, and, in the process, improving the earlier Games record of 3:29.02 which was also in the name of the Gold-winning Indian team in 2010.
