After hosting BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at his residence in the run up to the lok Sabha election, Tamil cinema’s reigning superstar Rajinikanth joined the Twitter on Monday and that too in style. Within minutes of the announcement about the King of Style joining the Twitter, the number of fans on the social networking site crossed more than 30,000. However, the number surged to 1,29,000 by the night.
“Instead of Rajinikanth joining Twitter, it is the other way round; it is Twitter which has joined Rajinikanth,” said one of his ardent fans. With Monday’s development, fans would be able to catch up with their Thalaiva (Tamil word for leader) on an hourly basis. A corporate communications company has been chartered to ensure that fans of the superstar get latest updates from him. “I have always believed that my career graph is a miracle; I owe it to my fans. I have been contemplating joining the social media platform for a while to connect with them, hear what they have to say and share my thoughts,” Rajinikanth was quoted saying by the company managing his cyberspace activity.
“I decided to start with Twitter because I felt that the platform is abuzz with all the news and the trends that happen across the globe and I’m told that this is where all the best Rajini one-liners are,” said Rajinikanth. Since Rajnikanth did not have a Twitter or blog, he had to send a recorded voice message to his fans during his illness which confined him to hospital for almost four months in 2012.
He joins the micro blog site Twitter in the run up to the release of the movie Kochchadiyaan, directed by daughter Soundarya in which Rjnikanth plays the led role. According to a press release by the company that would manage the superstar’s digital journey and leverage his digital presence as also manage his social media presence, fans can also access his Twitter account by dialling or giving a missed call on 080 6700 6666. Hindi superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s Twitter and blog has become popular which inspired many film stars to follow suit.
