The aftershocks of Saturday earthquake are likely to be followed by rain in major parts of India. The India Meteoro-logical Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall with thunderstorm over sub-Himalayan West-Bengal, North-Eastern States, parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha in the next 24-48 hours.
According to officials in IMD, further aftershocks are likely to be felt in the next few hours though of lesser intensity. An aftershock sent tremors across northern and central parts of India including Delhi on Sunday. The weather scientists have predicted that Nepal may experience widespread rain on Monday and thundershowers, which may trigger landslides, even as Nepal received heavy rain on Sunday night.
It has advised people to stay on alert. “The activity is most likely to become widespread on Monday and Tuesday with the possibility of heavy thunderstorm particularly over eastern part of Nepal,” said an IMD official. The Sub-Himalayan States of West Bengal and Sikkim would also experience fairly widespread rain or thundershower activity during next three days with possibility of isolated heavy thunderstorm.
Scattered thunderstorm activity over Bihar and isolated over East Uttar Pradesh would also occur during next two to three days. Duststorm and thunderstorm may also occur at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
A fresh Western Disturbance would also affect Western Himalayan region from April onwards and cause scattered rain/thundershowers over the region. This may cause heavy rainfall in the North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
