Rahul sad 'even PM doesn't get justice'

Criticising the Tamil Nadu Government’s decision to set free all the seven people convicted in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said he was “sad” that in this country even PM’s family did not get justice.

“I am speaking from my heart. In this country, even the PM does not get justice. This development has saddened me. I am sharing this with you not because he was my father but because they killed a former PM of a country,” Rahul said while addressing people in Amethi on Wednesday.

Rahul was just 21 when his father was killed by a suicide bomber at an election rally in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, on May 21, 1991. “I am personally against death penalty. But this is not about my father but about country’s Prime Minister,” Rahul said.

Rahul asked if a Prime Minister, who sacrificed his life for the nation, did not get justice how will a common man get justiceIJ “If some person kills the PM and is released then how will a common man get justice. It’s a point to ponder,” he said.

Incidentally, Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka had created a flutter by meeting Nalini in March 2008 and said she did not believe in anger, hatred and violence and will not allow these to overpower her.

“It was a very personal visit and completely on my own individual initiative. I would be deeply grateful if this could be respected,” Priyanka had said  about her meeting with Nalini Sriharan in Vellore jail in Tamil Nadu..
