Put pro-poor welfare schemes in mission mode: PM to BJP CMs
Published on:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked BJP-ruled Chief Ministers to work in a “mission mode” to make their States a model for execution of his Government’s schemes, mostly aimed at benefiting the poor. The BJP meeting, aimed at winning over the poor, formed a committee to finalise a “garib kalyan agenda”. The committee will finalise agenda for welfare of poor; and the same will be implemented in the party-ruled States.

Addressing the concluding session of the one-day conference of BJP’s Chief Ministers, Modi said though 80 of such key schemes should be implemented on a country-wide scale, the BJP CMs should make their States a paragon model by implementing the schemes by 100 per cent. He exhorted party leaders to communicate better and make people aware about the Central Government’s flag-ship programmes and their direct benefit to them.

The PM spoke about developing cost-efficient lED to save electricity. “The PM asked us to work in mission mode; to take up several works at once and show no lapses,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said after the meeting. Chouhan said the PM did not speak of one specific sector but spoke about all the pro-poor schemes in a holistic manner.

The meeting organised in Maharashtra Bhawan witnessed BJP Chief Ministers providing facts on the implementation status of flag-ship scheme like Jan-Dhan Yojna, Beti-Bachao-Beti-Padhao, Mudra yojna, Make-in-India, Start-up India, Stand-up India, Insurance schemes, Housing for all, Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan, and others in their respective States. A common threshold for these schemes and their future map were discussed in the meeting.

The inaugural address was made by BJP chief Amit Shah. Asserting that BJP has ushered in an era of “politics of performance”, Shah asked the CMs to make their States an effective instrument for execution of the Centre’s “pro-poor” and “good governance” agenda. Noting that the party rules over 51 per cent of the country’s landmass and 37 per cent population, he said States would play a key role in the success of the Modi Government’s welfare policies as they are responsible for executing 65 of the 80 such schemes launched

The CMs meeting, which was attended by all, barring Rajasthan CM Vasundhra Raje (represented by a senior State Minister), comes days after States’ core committee meeting where Modi had asked party leaders to continue working towards boosting nationalism, and also ensure Government’s welfare schemes are implemented effectively.

Besides the upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and later Goa and Gujarat, the party is also seriously looking at 2019 when general elections are due.
