The Delhi Police has tightened its ongoing probe into the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor and is likely to summon Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, his stepson, Shiv Menon, all the relatives, including Sunanda’s father, Poshkar Nath Dass and brothers in the investigation.
The Investigation Officer will issue summons under Section 160 of CrPC to Shashi Tharoor and Sunanda’s attendants in the next two to three days. The investigation team of South District police will now probe if the death was a suicide or a homicide and they are also waiting for the viscera report from the CFSl to find out what substance caused the ‘poisoning.’
After completing the enquiry under Section 176 of CrPC, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Vasant Vihar sub-division), Alok Sharma on Tuesday directed the Delhi Police to investigate the case thoroughly and find out the exact cause of poisoning after he clearly cited that the death was caused by ‘poisoning substances.’
Police sources said that Sharma, in his 200-page report, has claimed that family members do not suspect foul play in Sunanda’s death and have not mentioned anything about dowry harassment, cruelty or torture. On Tuesday afternoon, Alok Sharma met the Station House Officer of Sarojini Nagar, Atul Sood at his office in Kapashera Border and handed over the enquiry report, including the autopsy report and statements of 11 people.
“Following directions from the SDM, police have begun investigations and have started scanning the call detail record of Shashi Tharoor and other people too,” police sources said, adding that the SDM had recorded the statements of 11 people under Section 164 of CrPC, including Shashi Tharoor, Shiv Menon, Sunanda’s brothers Rajesh Pushkar and Ashish, personal assistant Rajkumar Sharma, consultant Shiv Kumar, personal secretary Abhinav Kumar, attendants Narayan and Bajrangi, journalist Nalini Singh, one doctor of The leela Palace hotel and the private hospital that first attended to her immediately after the incident was reported.
In his statement recorded before the SDM, Rajesh Pushkar told the judicial officer that there was no marital discord between the couple. The investigation team will now find out the exact reasons for the injury marks which were found on the victim’s body and their fresh statements will be recorded. The SDM has not seen the CCTV footage of the hotel, now investigators are scanning the CCTV footage to corroborate the statements made by the people questioned so far.
