The Punjab Government on Thursday constituted a two-member panel comprising Justice (retired) Mehtab Singh Gill and the State Principal Secretary (Home Affairs and Justice) Anurag Verma to carry out a thorough probe into the lapses that occurred during the PM’s visit a day before.
The panel has sought the response from State Director-General of Police (DGP) and all others involved in the PM security. While the State police chief has been asked to submit the response to the queries raised by 5 pm on Friday, others have been given time till 9 am Friday.
As per the orders, the committee will submit its report within three days. However, the BJP rejected the Government-constituted panel alleging that Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was the “ringleader of conspiracy”.
Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma, after meeting Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit, said, “We reject the committee set up by the Punjab Government to investigate the matter... This committee, formed by the Chief Minister will never be able to find out anything because he himself is the ringleader of this conspiracy.”
