Angry over the brutal murder of teacher Mukesh Kumar allegedly by two of his students on the school premises on Monday, over 1,500 teachers and locals, including kith and kin of the deceased, on Tuesday staged a protest on the Nangloi-Najafgarh stretch. They demanded compensation of Rs 2 crore for the family of Kumar and enhanced security at Government schools.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Government announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family members of Mukesh Kumar. “The Delhi Cabinet decided to pay Rs 1 crore to Mukesh Kumar’s family and will support the family in all ways possible,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The Government has also ordered a magisterial enquiry into the murder to establish any lapse of the school authorities or at the hospital.
Sisodia also appealed to parents to talk to their children and make them understand that teachers are well-intentioned. He said it was important for the Government as well as parents to restore the morale of the teachers who are shaken after this incident. He said the safety concerns of teachers need to be addressed by all.
Police on Tuesday said they have arrested two accused, including a juvenile, in connection to the murder.
The PGT teacher was allegedly stabbed by two students in front of their classmates after they were not allowed to sit exams for low attendance.
“Police constables should be deployed at Government schools for the safety and security of both students and teachers but nothing has been done about it yet,” said Arun Kumar, a teacher of a Government school.
It was reported that two Class XII students rusticated for low attendance in a Government school in Nangloi on Monday allegedly stabbed Mukesh Kumar with a knife. Kumar was rushed to hospital but died later in the night. Sisodia had on Monday visited him after he got to know about the incident.
