President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday supported the idea of simultaneous elections to the lok Sabha and legislative Assemblies in the country while taking a special class at Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya at President’s Estate on Teachers’ Day.
When a Class 11 student asked the President on the spending on elections and whether it would be good to hold all polls in one go, he replied, “The Election Commission can also put in their idea and efforts on holding the polls together and that will be highly beneficial. You are absolutely correct. Today throughout the year some election or the other is happening and regular work comes to a standstill with code of conduct being implemented. This doesn’t only stop work in the State but also in the Central Government.”
“Having proved our mettle by successfully implementing our parliamentary policies, if political parties come to decide … All participants of political spectrum have to think about this problem and how to address it to ensure political stability,” he added.
