Prepare for repoll: BJP to cadre

With no possibility of Government formation in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has asked its party cadre and leaders to be prepared for re-election. Senior party leaders and the newly elected MlAs of the BJP made clear their reluctance to form a minority Government in the national Capital.

However, the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party held several brainstorming meetings to decide the party’s stand in the event of the lieutenant Governor of Delhi inviting the BJP to form a new Government. However, Vijay Goel said the party would take a final call after a formal invitation to form a government.

Singh is said to have held discussions with senior party colleagues and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday. However, sources said the party is awaiting a formal invitation from the lieutenant Governor office before it discloses its action plan.

“It is a sad situation for us and residents of Delhi, but due to present technicalities, a government cannot be formed with a fractured mandate. We don’t have enough numbers to form a stable government and we are ready to fight the election once again if such a situation arises,” said Dr Harsh Vardhan. “We have emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly polls, but lack a few seats (for majority). We are neither eager nor trying to form a government by any immoral means,” he said.

Vardhan, BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, was formally elected as the leader of the legislature party at the first meeting of 31 party MlAs and one Shiromani Akali Dal legislator at Delhi BJP office. The meeting was attended by BJP Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel among other senior leaders.

A senior BJP leader said on the condition of anonymity that the Central leadership has conveyed to the Delhi BJP leaders to be prepared for the re-elections that may take place simultaneously with the parliamentary elections in case no Government is formed in the Capital. Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel also reiterated the party’s line.

“As we have not got majority, we have decided not to form a government by any illegal means. In every election, hundreds of crores of rupees are spent. We would have been happy, had any party formed a government,” said Goel. Expressing confidence that the BJP will be able to form a government after a re-election, he said that the party was ready to sit in the Opposition and also ready to face election. “If we get any invitation from the lieutenant Governor, we will decide whether we can form a government or not,” said Goel to a query about their future strategy.
