A police constable was killed and 11 other security personnel, including three paramilitary jawans, were injured when suspected terrorists hurled a grenade on a security column in Nowhatta area of old Srinagar on Sunday.
A police official said unknown persons tossed a grenade towards a halted police vehicle at Nowhata around 6.50 pm. The area had little traffic movement due to shutdown called by separatists. The splinters hit a policeman Shamim Ahmad and 11 others. The injured were immediately rushed to hospital where Ahmad succumbed to his injuries.
A CRPF spokesman Bhavesh Chaudhary said three CRPF cops sustained injuries in the grenade attack.
