Mother Dairy cuts prices
Mother Dairy will reduce prices on several products starting September 22, passing on the benefits of recent GST rate cuts. While prices of pouch milk remain unchanged due to existing tax exemption, UHT milk and paneer will now attract zero GST (down from 5 per cent ), and other dairy and Safal-branded processed foods will see GST drop from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Prices of UHT milk, paneer, ghee, butter, and items like pickles and frozen fries will decrease. The company's entire product range will now fall under either nil or 5 per cent GST. The move is expected to boost consumption.
Congress bets big on podcasts
The Madhya Pradesh Congress is setting up a dedicated podcast studio at its Bhopal headquarters, aiming to become the first political party in India with its own podcast platform. Expected to launch by Diwali, the initiative seeks to bypass traditional media by directly engaging the public on key issues like employment, healthcare, education and governance. The studio will feature discussions with experts, senior leaders and grassroots workers, offering diverse perspectives. Equipped for high-quality audio-video production, the platform targets younger, digital-savvy audiences. If successful, the model may expand to other States, marking a strategic shift in the Congress's communication approach.
Robert Redford dies at 89
Robert Redford, acclaimed actor, Oscar-winning director, and founder of the Sundance Film Festival, died at 89 at his Utah home. Rising to fame in the 1960s, Redford starred in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President's Men. He later shifted to directing, winning Best Director for Ordinary People. Redford championed independent cinema through Sundance, helping launch the careers of major filmmakers.
Congress Slams Judicial Speed
A day after the Supreme Court accepted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) clean chit and closed a case against Vantara — Reliance Foundation’s zoological rescue centre — Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the judicial system’s selective speed. Ramesh noted that while most cases face delays, the Vantara case, based on two PILs, was investigated and resolved in under 40 days, with the SIT submitting its findings in a sealed cover.
