MPs missing Parliament Standing Committee meets
Since their reconstitution in September, several MPs across parties have frequently skipped Parliamentary Standing Committee meetings, with average attendance around 60 per cent, leaving nearly 40 per cent absent. These committees, comprising 31 members from both Houses, are crucial for reviewing bills and policies. Despite regular demands for referring bills to committees for serious deliberation, attendance remains low. Specific meetings saw minimal participation: only 13–24 members in key discussions of the External Affairs Committee, and similarly poor turnouts in committees on agriculture, defence, communications, and railways. Speaker Om Birla emphasised the vital role of these “mini Parliaments” in shaping effective laws and policies for the public.
Major bureaucratic, police reshuffle in Capital
The Delhi Police has reassigned 24 IPS and 14 DANIPS officers to new roles, per an official order from the Lieutenant Governor's office. Key IPS postings include David Lalringsanga as Special Commissioner for Women, Children, and the Northeast Region; Dheeraj Kumar as Director of Delhi Police Academy; and Vijay Kumar as Joint CP, Eastern Range. Several district-level DCPs were also reshuffled, including Nidhin Valsan to Central and Amit Goel to South West. Among DANIPS officers, Vinit Kumar was moved to IFSO Unit, and Chepyala Anjitha now heads SPUWAC. Additional DCP roles were filled by both IPS and DANIPS officers across various districts and units.
