Father Behind Acid attack Claim
Delhi police revealed that a college student’s alleged acid attack was fabricated at the instigation of her father, Akil Khan, who sought revenge against a rape complaint filed by the wife of the accused. The 20-year-old DU student had claimed she was attacked with acid by three men, naming Jitender and his relatives. Investigations found multiple discrepancies: the supposed attackers were elsewhere, CCTV footage showed no incident and no acid or bottles were recovered. The father admitted to orchestrating the story, using ordinary toilet cleaner, which the student applied herself to gain attention. Further probing revealed Akil Khan had allegedly raped Jitender’s wife between 2021–2024 and had a history of disputes with her family, including prior allegations dating back to 2018. The incident appears linked to long-standing family and property disputes. Police continue questioning involved relatives, including distant cousins, and coordinating the investigation to uncover all possible accomplices and motives behind the hoax.
Govt can rethink Telco fines: SC
The Supreme Court has allowed the Centre to reconsider Vodafone Idea’s pending AGR (Adjusted Gross Revenue) dues of `5,606 crore for 2016-17, recognising it as a policy matter. AGR forms the basis for calculating license fees and spectrum charges payable by telecom firms. Vodafone Idea had challenged fresh demands by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), arguing that liabilities had already been crystallised by the 2019 Supreme Court verdict. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta noted that the Government now holds 49 per cent equity in Vodafone Idea, and with nearly 200 million subscribers, Government intervention is crucial to safeguard consumer interests.
