Mary Kom’s home burgled
Thieves broke into the Faridabad home of six-time world boxing champion Mary Kom while she was in Meghalaya attending a marathon in Sohra. Kom informed event organisers that she was shocked and worried upon learning of the theft, which occurred earlier in the week. She said the full extent of the loss would be known only after her return. Police sources claim, CCTV footage revealed that a television and other items were stolen. Neighbours alerted her about the break-in, and she has since filed a police complaint. Kom, a six-time boxing world champion, hails from Manipur.
HC halts burning effigy of accused
The Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has stayed the inclusion of Sonam Raghuvanshi’s name in a Dussehra effigy-burning ritual, calling the issue sensitive and legally complex. Organisers had planned to feature her in the Surpanakha Dahan as symbolic punishment for her alleged role in a high-profile honeymoon murder case. Petitioners argued this would defame her and prejudice ongoing legal proceedings. The court allowed the ritual to proceed but barred personal references, emphasising that cultural expression must respect individual rights and judicial integrity. The case remains under review, with wider implications for symbolism in public festivals.
Govt mulls more time for panels
The Government is considering extending the tenure of parliamentary standing committees from one year to two, following lawmakers’ concerns that a single year is too short for meaningful work. A decision is expected after consultations with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan. Parliamentary panels, often called mini-parliaments, are reconstituted annually, with chairmanships distributed proportionally among parties. Members can also request to switch committees. Of the 24 department-related panels, 16 are chaired by Lok Sabha members and 8 by Rajya Sabha members. Other types include financial, ad-hoc, and issue-specific committees formed as needed.
India Sweep Air Pistol Medals
Indian shooters dominated the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the ISSF Junior World Cup, clinching both gold and silver on Saturday. Rashmika Sahgal and Kapil topped qualification with a score of 582 and went on to defeat compatriots Vanshika Chaudhary and Antony Jonathan Gavin 16-10 in a one-sided final. The Spanish duo of Ines Ortega Castro and Lucas Sanchez won bronze after edging Iran 16-14. While Kapil and Rashmika maintained consistency, Gavin and Vanshika faltered with erratic scores, costing them the top spot. In the junior men's skeet final, India missed the podium with Harmehar Singh Lally and Atul Singh Rajawat finishing fourth and fifth. Italy's Marco Coco won gold, while Finland and Cyprus secured silver and bronze. The junior women's skeet final will feature Raiza Dhillon, Mansi Raghuwanshi, and Agrima Kanwar.
