The ‘All Fools’ Day’ popular as ‘April Fools’ Day’ turned out to be another day of political slugfest in India with the parties accusing each other of fooling the people of the country.
While a shadow boxing was already going on in the social media, in a bid to add some more punch to the game, the Congress released a spoof video on the Twitter attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his poll promises. The BJP hit back soon with a video made out of clips of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s speech bloopers.
Terming April Fools’ Day as the ‘Happy Jumla Diwas’, the Congress in a sarcastic video message made in the form of ‘breaking news’ said the Modi Government has “cleaned Ganga”, “made smart cities”, “eliminated corruption through demonetisation, and has put Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s account.”
It also lauded diamond traders Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi for ‘swiping clean’ the Punjab National Bank as part of the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyaan. “They (Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi) have been awarded a foreign trip for their acheivment,” the video says. Taking a dig at the Government on jobs front, the video said that the Modi Government has provided 200 crore jobs, and now, even aliens from Mars would work in India.
The Congress continued its attack on Twitter too. “Thanks to the Modi Govt for eradicating corruption from the very roots. Jay Shah too says thanks,” Congress tweeted while taking a dig at BJP president Amit Shah’s son.
“Here are some other BREAKING NEWS stories trending this hour: An amount of INR 15,00,000.00 has been CREDITED to your A/C on 01/04/2018 towards
Acche Din. Ref No. http://BJP00000420.Total Avail.bal INR 0.00,” the Congress tweeted.
The Congress youth wing attacked the BJP on unemployment issues. “After wooing voters with big fat promises of Employment, lower Inflation, 15 lakhs support and what not, the Modi Govt terms them all as Jumlas. The convenience with which the Govt transforms Promises to Jumlas is extraordinary. Today is the day for the Govt,” the Youth Congress tweeted.
lawyer-turned-political activist Prashant Bhushan tweeted: “The promise of Jobs for youth, fair MSP for farmers, lokpal, war on black money, 15 l in our pockets, scam free Govt (NiMo, Rafale, Birla/Sahara, Adani/Ambani), Ek Bharat for all, turned out to be #HappyJumlaDivas .”
Compared to the attack, the BJP’s response was somewhat muted though the BJP Karnataka’s Twitter did post a tweet about ‘Pappu Divas’. In the tweet, the BJP posted a picture of a Game of Thrones character Ned Stark and asked: “Can someone please explain to us what is this #PappuDiwas #WorldPappuDayIJ”
The BJP also came out with a video containing Rahul Gandhi’s blooper. The tweet read: “Mr. Rahul Gandhi, make no mistake, you are the undisputed king of bloopers and this is just the trailer. We trust you will always keep us entertained.”
