Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay, who was injured in a scuffle with another inmate in a Jammu jail, was stated to be critical and in deep coma. “He is on ventilator and in deep coma. He continues to be critically sick,” said an update issued by the PGIMER on Saturday night. The Pakistan High Commission officials had earlier in the day visited Sanaullah at the PGIMER.
Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso called on his Indian counterpart to personally look into the attack and ensure a thorough investigation. In a statement, Khoso expressed “deep concern” over the incident and noted that a large number of Pakistani nationals were incarcerated in Indian prisons.
“It is our expectation that the Indian Government would ensure the safety of Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails and also facilitate expeditious release of all those who have completed their jail terms,” Khoso said.
Meanwhile, India granted consular access on a daily basis to Pakistan officials to visit Sanaullah at PGI in Chandigarh. A team of Pakistan High Commission officials had already made a visit to Sanaullah at the hospital in the wee hours on Saturday.
“We have given Pakistan High Commission officials consular access on daily basis. They can visit Sanaullah once a day. They will also be briefed twice a day on his condition,” spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said.
“The doctors have given a very pessimistic prognosis of Sanaullah's recovery or survival and rule out prospects of his medical evacuation,” Pakistan High Commission Press Attache said. He added, “The medical condition shows that Sanaullah was subjected to brutal assaults of unspeakable savagery in the jail, which is a matter of deep concern”.
Meanwhile in Pakistan, the authorities have suspended three senior prison officials over the fatal attack on Sarabjit Singh inside a jail, a week after the brutal incident. The Home Secretary of Punjab province suspended the three officials from service for alleged negligence that led to the brutal attack on Sarabjit within Kot lakhpat Jail.
