Srini reinstated; probe team set up
New Delhi: In a big relief to N Srinivasan, the Supreme Court allowed him to take charge as BCCI president even as it constituted a three-member committee headed by former Punjab & Haryana Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal to inquire into the allegation of betting and spot-fixing against his son-in-law and owners of Rajasthan Royals. Srinivasan had stepped aside from his post after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested in connection with the spot-fixing scandal.
3-month deadline for 3% quota for differently-abled
New Delhi: In a significant decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday paved the way for implementing the three per cent reservation criteria for differently-abled in all Central and State Government jobs. And this should be regardless of the 50% quota ceiling set by the SC. Giving Centre and States three months to draw out a list of posts for which reservation will apply, the court warned that not observing reservation scheme for differently-abled would be considered an act of “non-obedience” and it would lead to initiation of departmental proceeding against the nodal officer concerned.

New Delhi: As more skeletons tumble out of the Nira Radia tapes, the role of several Income tax officials has come under scanner for helping the corporate lobbyist evade taxes to set up her huge illegal empire.
The CBI dropped hints of its latest discovery on scrutiny of the intercepted calls which raised disturbing questions as to why no investigation was initiated by the IT department which snooped on Radia’s phones in the months following August 2008. The apex bench of Justices GS Singhvi and V Gopala Gowda, which examined the remaining tapes, wondered how the conversations, containing more serious issues relating to national security, never came to the notice of the higher ups in the Government.
