Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday step up attack on the Opposition, alleging that Parliament was not allowed to function as rival parties were trying to defend the dishonest and running away from a debate on issues like graft and simultaneous polls to the lok Sabha and Assemblies.

While addressing BJP’s “Parivartan Rally” at Nirala Nagar Railway Ground in Kanpur, Modi made a fervent appeal to the media and intellectuals to help him in his mission to make India corruption-free. He said he was surprised to see that while the agenda of his Government is to eliminate corruption and black money from the country, Opposition parties are busy stalling the proceedings in Parliament.

“Our agenda is to fight for a country free of corruption and black money. But their agenda is to close (disrupt) Parliament...I am puzzled,” Modi said, days after the Winter Session ended in a washout due to the standoff over demonetisation.

The PM said he had given a suggestion at an all-party meeting convened before the Winter Session of Parliament that a debate should be held on simultaneous elections to the lok Sabha and State Assemblies and donations to political parties.

“But Parliament was not allowed to function for a month as the Opposition parties were not interested in a discussion on the two issue,” the Prime Minister said.

Modi said that even some politicians had tried to “provoke” people standing in ATM queues, but their designs did not succeed as the common man was patient and understood that larger interest of the country was at stake.

The PM also hailed the efforts of the Election Commission to get rid of black money from electoral system and said the BJP welcomes it.

He said that during his visit to various parts of Uttar Pradesh, he found that there was not only the wave of change but it appeared to be a storm of change. Modi said the people of UP are fed up of vandalism. Even leaders of rulingparty were taking the side of vandals. Vandalism in Uttar Pradesh can only be removed with the change of Government in the State.

Modi said after 70 years of Independence, several parties were voted to power in Uttar Pradesh and the State had given many PMs but there are around 1,600 villages have no electricity.

Modi said with the help of latest technology, search was on to locate people hiding their black money either in bank or with them. On this occasion, Modi also announced an attractive scheme for the poor to promote cashless transactions. He said from December 25 (Christmas Day) onwards, people preferring payments through online, e-vallet, digital currency, debit/credit cards, etc, would be awarded.
