One person was killed and 12 others were injured after a speeding SUV went over the road divider on which they were sleeping, near Nigambodh Ghat.
The errant driver was in an inebriated state at the time of the mishap. Angry locals vandalised the vehicle and turned it upside down before handing over the driver to the police.
The accident took place around 10 pm when 13 homeless people were sleeping on the road divider near the U-turn. The deceased has been identified as Ikhraj, a native of Nepal.
The Mahindra Quanto car was being driven by Rishi Kumar (30) who works as a property dealer in West Delhi area. Kumar was accompanied by his sister-in-law at the time of the incident. They were returning from a relative’s house in Jahangirpuri and heading towards their residence at West Vinod Nagar in East Delhi.
