The initial medical reports rule out the possibility of rape of the victims in the May 25 robbery and alleged gangrape incident in Greater Noida’s Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh in which a family of eight, including four women, was attacked by a gang of criminals.
A male family member Shakeel Qureshi was shot dead when he objected to the goons misbehaving with the women of the family.
“No proof of rape has yet been found in the medical tests on the Jewar gangrape victims,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gautam Budh Nagar luv Kumar told the media on Friday. He said their clothes and tissue samples will be sent to the forensic laboratory in lucknow for further tests, results of which will be out in two to three weeks.
Meanwhile, the four women, who were victimised by the criminals on the highway, told the media that their earlier allegations that their neighbours had gangraped them and shot their male relative dead were not true as they had said this in a fit of rage.
The neighbours in question live near the victims’ house and police suspected a property dispute between the two families.
Sources said the women changed their allegations after some senior citizens of Jewar village visited their home on Thursday and advised them not to unnecessarily frame their innocent neighbours as it would confuse police to crack the case and apprehend the actual perpetrators.
Heeding to their counsel, the women changed their statement. Following which police have released all of them.
“Suspects are being identified. Once we confirm their involvement we will arrest them. More suspects are also being questioned,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dileep Singh. The rape victims will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate for recording their statements, he said.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautambudh Nagar district, Dr Anurag Bhargav, said, “As per the medical report the four women were not sexually assaulted. The two member team of doctors who examined the alleged rape victims has opined that there was neither vaginal injury nor presence of semen or any other mark of injury on their bodies.”
The police official said the gangrape charge in the FIR will remain till final forensic results are declared. “We have roped in police personnel from neighbouring States and are hopeful of cracking the case soon,” he said.
As many as 50 personnel from different security agencies - special operation group (SOG), special task force (STF), anti-extortion cell, crime branch and district police - have been roped in to solve the case. Top officials have set a deadline of two weeks to work out the case.
Rajpal Tomar, the Station House Officer (SHO of Jewar Police station said the final statement of the victims would be recorded before the magistrate”. Once the statement is recorded, we will have a clear picture said Tomar, who is supervising the investigations.
The investigators are probing all the angles and studying similar cases to analyse the modus operandi of such gangs. “In previous cases, we had identified many persons involved in such robbery cases. We will check all details and investigate accordingly,” said an investigation officer.
Former Samajwadi Party Minister and Member of legislative council Narendra Bhati said the Yogi Government has failed in maintaining law and order in the State.
He further demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the family of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh for the women victims.
“It has been 36 hours since the incident has taken place but yet police has no clue about the criminals. I demand quick arrest of the accused,” Bhati said.
