No proof of Jadhav being Indian spy: Aziz

In a major embarrassment for Pakistan, its Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Wednesday admitted that the Government was presented with only “insufficient evidence” on alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav who is under detention. Addressing a full Senate chamber, Aziz said the dossier on Jadhav contained mere statements.

“So far, we have just statements about the involvement of the Indian spy in terror activities in Pakistan. It did not have any conclusive evidence,” he was quoted as saying by Geo TV.

“What the dossier contained was not enough. Now it is up to the authorities concerned how long they take to give us more matter on the agent,” Aziz said.

Jadhav, who was reportedly arrested in Balochistan after he entered from Iran, has been accused by Pakistan of planning “subversive activities” in the country.

The Pakistan Army had also released a “confessional video” of Jadhav, who said he was a serving Indian Navy officer. India has acknowledged Jadhav as a retired Indian Navy officer, but denied the allegation that he was in any way connected to the Government.

Aziz added more evidence was needed, and that the United Nations had been given a dossier about India’s external Intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW)’s involvement in Pakistan, a report in Dawn newspaper said. Pakistan claims that Jadhav, who was reportedly arrested in Balochisan in March this year, is a RAW agent.

Islamabad has used the arrest of Jadhav at every international forum to drum up support for its contention that, RAW, was fomenting terrorism in Balochistan. It has repeatedly briefed envoys of the European Union and the UN Security Council’s permanent member nations about Jadhav’s “subversive activities” in Balochistan.
