No fuel for PUC defaulters

No fuel for PUC defaulters

In a move to control the rising level of pollution in the national Capital, the Delhi Government now intends to sell petrol and diesel only to those who possess a valid pollution under control certificate (PUC). The step is more of a warning for Delhiites to not go against the pollution control norms of the city.

The decision was taken in a departmental meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, recently. Meanwhile, the Government has directed all the petrol pump owners to equip themselves with the PUC testing facility.

For effective implementation of PUC, the transport department will soon write to all the defaulters to get their anti-pollution check done immediately.

Delhi, having shifted to Euro-IV fuel, is also in urgent need to upgrade the PUC norms. It is noted that a high power committee on air pollution, set up by lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung, has suggested stricter PUC norms for all vehicles.
