No CCTV in hotel lift, says DIGP Mishra

The Goa Police on Saturday disclosed that there was no CCTV camera inside the elevator of the five-star hotel where Tehelka’s Editor Tarun Tejpal is reported to have sexually assaulted a junior colleague.

“There are no CCTVs in the elevator,” Deputy Inspector General of Police OP Mishra told reporters at a Press conference at the police headquarters. Police sources suggest that all hope is not lost. “There is footage to show that the girl exits the lift running. This corroborates what she has said earlier,” a source said. Mishra said that they will approach the agency that had installed the surveillance system in the hotel. “I cannot reveal any more information because investigations are on,” Mishra said.

In a statement on Friday, Tejpal requested investigators to “examine and release the CCTV footage so that the accurate version of the events stand clearly revealed”. The police have said they will attempt to gather all evidence possible, including e-mails and text messages of Tejpal in connection with the incident and the complaint of the girl to the management.
