Nithari 2.0: Accused took cue from porn

The parents of the 24-year-old serial rapist and killer are shocked that their son was indulging in such heinous crimes for the last several years and they were unaware of his wrongdoings.

The neighbours, who are stunned that a paedophile and murderer was living among them, said he kept a low profile and did not indulge in any fights. They said he was a very self-centered man and never spoke to them unless he needed something from them.

Investigators who arrested Ravinder Kumar told The Pioneer he was in the habit of watching pornographic movies and took inspiration for his crimes from them. During interrogation he confessed to his involvement in previous cases of rape and sodomy in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Ravinder Kumar was arrested on Saturday during the parallel investigations of the rape and murder of a missing minor girl and a robbery in Outer Delhi’s Begumpur area.

His 58-year-old father, Birmanand, told The Pioneer that no one from the neighbourhood ever complained to him about Ravinder. “He is a quiet person and remains aloof but he could not indulge in raping and killing of minor girls. I believe somebody has conspired against him,” said Birmanand, who works as a plumber.

Ravinder, a school dropout, is second among four unmarried brothers and hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Khasra Village. All of them work as part-time labourers and live in a small rented accommodation at Sukhbir Nagar in Begumpur area.

“He is a self-centered man but we never thought he could commit such crimes,” said a neighbour who did not wish to be named. After the incident came to light, Ravinder's family has been asked to leave the area by the locals.

Ravinder's gory deeds came to light when a missing complaint was lodged for a girl at Begumpur Police Station. During investigation, police discovered the body of a girl from an abandoned house in Begumpur area. From the same place, they recovered the driving license of one Sunny who later told the police that he was beaten and robbed by Ravinder and his brother Sunil.

Police then located Ravinder and took him into custody where he not only confessed to his involvement in the robbery, but also told the police that he was involved in the rape of several minor girls and murders. After getting high on cheap drugs, he used to target children, a police officer involved in the investigations said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), Vikramjit Singh told The Pioneer: “After his revelations we showed him photographs of some victims. He identified the photograph of a girl from Samaypur Badli who he had raped and killed in 2012.” In the present case, the police have acquired scientific evidence to prove that he was involved in the rape and murder of the girl.

Ravinder used to rape and kill young children by luring them with toffees, chocolates and money. Sometimes, he even abducted children sleeping outside their houses with their families.

When asked why the serial killer and rapist was not caught earlier Singh said: “The criminal never used to leave any clues. But this time, it was the complaint lodged by one Sunny who lived in the neighbourhood that helped us in identifying and arresting him.”

“The accused seems to have a primitive mindset. His psychological tests and brain mapping is yet to be done,” said Singh.
