After facing criticism over the launch of an Ayurvedic medicine kit “Coronil” claiming it can cure deadly coronavirus in just seven days, Patanjali Group on Tuesday made a complete U-turn by not only denying the claim but also asserting that it never made any such medicine.
Patanjali Group CEO Acharya Balkrishna, in response to the notice issued by the Uttarakhand Drug Department, denied making any medicine named as “Corona Kit”. He also claimed that Patanjali Group has not commercially sold any kit named as “Coronil Kit” nor the group has publicised it as a cure for coronavirus.
In his clarification, Balkrishna went on to say, “We have only packed the following medicines ‘Divya Swasari Vati’, ‘Divya Coronil Tablet’ and ‘Divya Anu Tail’ in a shipping/packaging carton for shipping purpose. We have only promoted the successful trail of Coronil Kit before the media and nothing else.”
Maharashtra had threatened Patanjali with legal action if “Coronil” is advertised or sold in the State without approval while the Union AYUSH Ministry had stopped the firm from advertising the product unless its claims were tested.
The AYUSH Ministry will clear stance on Patanjali’s medicines after reviewing its report, Shripad Naik, Union AYUSH Minister, had said soon after Patanjali launched the herbal drug on June 23.
Patanjali launched “Coronil” tablet in the presence of group CEO Acharya Balkrishna and Baba Ramdev. During the launch, they claimed the medicine has constituents to cure coronavirus.
