PM, Nadda hail ‘kisan putra’ Dhankhar as right man for the job
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Saturday announced West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate for the Vice-President’s job.
This was yet another decision by the ruling regime that surprised all. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda both evoked Dhankhar’s farmer credentials to term him “kisan putra” (farmer’s son).
The decision regarding the 71-year-old Dhankhar, who hogged the limelight for his frequent face-offs with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was taken during a BJP Parliamentary Board meeting chaired by Modi and attended by Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, BJP national general secretary BL Santosh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
