A Delhi court on Monday issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against former Delhi law Minister Somnath Bharti in an alleged domestic violence and attempt to murder case, filed by his wife lipika Mitra last Thursday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Manika issued the NBW against Bharti after the Delhi Police informed the court that he was not cooperating in the probe.
The Delhi MlA, who according to the Delhi Police, is absconding, filed an anticipatory bail through his lawyer. However, the Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg rejected his application after an extended courtroom drama.
During the hearing for Bharti’s bail application, public prosecutor Shailendra Babbar said Bharti being an AAP MlA is a powerful person and can influence anyone. “People are not coming forward to give statements against Bharti as he is an influential person,” he said, adding the charges against Bharti were of a serious nature.
