Munna Bhai-inspired garba in ward turns bitter pill for hospital staff

At a time when Navaratri festivities are at their peak in Gujarat a bizarre incident at Sola Civil Hospital on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Road in Ahmedabad triggered a major controversy as doctors, nurses and medico staff danced on loud Garba tunes and that too inside a hemodialysis ward. Upset over the incident à la superhit Bollywood movie Munna Bhai MBBS, the State Health Department has served show-cause notice to 40 staff members of the hospital.

The dance party of doctors and nurses started after State Finance, Medical Education, Health & Family Welfare Minister Nitin Patel inaugurated a new dialysis centre at the hospital.

Soon after the incident, video footage of the young male and woman doctors, nurses, ward boys and ward girls in their uniform dancing on Garba tunes and

taking rounds of the beds went viral on social media as well as local and national television channels.

Outraged by the footage of the dance party going viral, the State Health Department has given notices to 40 staff members of the hospital for dancing inside the  ward wearing shoes and slippers, which are prohibited as per hospital rules.

“The Garba event was planned for the inaugural function outside the hemodialysis ward. However, some staff members and even patients danced on Garba tune after the function. The hospital management stopped it as soon as the incident came to its knowledge,” said Medical Superintendent of Sola Hospital, HK Bhavsar, adding that no one had taken any permission it.

Reacting to the shocking incident, Health Minister Patel said the staff members could have celebrated the new facility somewhere else. “We will take appropriate action against the responsible staff members,” said the Minister.
