A 19-year-old girl, Meenakshi, was stabbed 32 times to death on Thursday evening  in Anand Parbat area of Central Delhi by two of her neighbours who bore a grudge against her for having lodged a case of molestation against them in October 2013.

The girl’s mother, Usha, (40), who tried to save her was also stabbed by the two brothers. Police have arrested the accused Jai Prakash (21) and his brother Ajay (19). Also, they are investigating the role of the attackers’ mother who allegedly instigated her sons to take revenge on the girl.

In her statement before police, Usha stated that the accused used to threaten her daughter and had attacked her on earlier occasions too. “We had lodged several complaints with the local police but nothing was done,” she said.

According to police, the incident took place when Meenakshi was returning home from a grocery shop. “Jai Prakash waylaid Meenakshi and started abusing her. When she objected to his boorish behaviour, Jai Prakash’s younger brother Ajay joined him and started beating her,” the officer said.

Meenakshi managed to free herself and run a few steps but they caught her again and stabbed her several times with a sharp-edged weapon and knife.

According to an eyewitness, Meenakshi’s mother Usha  was also beaten and stabbed by the attackers when she came out of the house to save her daughter from their clutches. Sources said the mother of the two brothers, Shashi Bala (65) was also present when they were stabbing Meenakshi.

Shockingly, Meenakshi and her mother were beaten and stabbed in full public view but no one came forward to help the two victims.

later, neighbours informed the police and the badly-injured girl and her mother were rushed to Ram Manohar lohia Hospital where Meenakshi succumbed to her injuries, while her mother is recuperating.

According to police officials the two families had a running feud and in October 2013, Meenakshi had lodged a complaint of molestation against the two brothers. Meenakshi is survived by her mother and father Rajkumar, who works in a private factory.

The accused Jai works as a salesman in Central Delhi’s Gaffar Market while Ajay is unemployed. Police have detained their mother Shashi Bala and are probing her involvement in the case too, said the officer.
